The Golden Age of Jewish-American writing

Pages 43-49 | Published online: 28 May 2013

Abstract

In the 50 years since the Jewish Quarterly began, one of the greatest developments in Jewish culture has been the rise of Jewish-American writing. The novels of Bellow and Roth, of Heller and Mailer, of Doctorow and Malamud, and the plays of Miller and Mamet, not only changed American literature. They have transformed the way we think about Jewish writing.
