I was retained by Cardinal Mahony to be the art consultant for this cathedral project. In this role, I was responsible for establishing the master plan for all art, furnishings, and appointments inside and out. I worked closely with the cardinal, an arts committee, and each artist. I also served as an intermediary to convey to the owner and members of the design team the diverse artistic processes, ideologies, methodologies, and contractual agreements used by each artist.
I had the privilege of designing this carnelian granite baptismal font.
In the master plan for art, I suggested that the cathedral should, in some medium, remind the pilgrims, the worshipers, of their ancestors in faith. I proposed different approaches before the tapestry solution was accepted.
