Some Philosophical Considerations: the role of the computer in special education

Pages 6-11 | Published online: 16 Jul 2010

Abstract

Editorial comment: In this provocative article, Cain takes a strong position on the basic reasons for including computers in the special education curriculum. He argues that knowledge of computers and how to interact with them will be an essential skill in the near future. In addition, computers have tremendous potential to compensate for communication difficulties and linguistic problems through applications such as telecommunications, word processing, and voice synthesis. Furthermore, computers can bring reality into the schools through interactive simulations.
