Abstract
Editor's comment: Closing the Gap is a bimonthly newspaper devoted to how handicapped individuals can use the microcomputer as a personal tool and as an educational aid. Closing the Gap also conducts workshops for parents and teachers on how to use computers to meet the needs of the handicapped for communication, environmental control, and learning. The newspaper and workshops began after Dolores and Budd Hagen discovered the value of computers for their hearing impaired son. In their search for software to meet his needs, they discovered a great deal about software and hardware adaptations that could help all handicapped persons. They started a small newspaper to share the information. The newspaper led to requests for information and help with individual problems, so they started offering individually designed workshops for parents and teachers. In addition to frequent workshops, they now offer a national conference, and Dolores Hagen has published a book. The following article describes one example of his work.
