Techniques for the Management of Physical Aggression

Abstract

Editorial comment: At some time, nearly every person involved in service delivery with special populations will be confronted with a physically aggressive individual. It is hoped that appropriate preventive measures will be taken to assist the individual to maintain self-control; however, as a last resort, if often becomes necessary to physically intervene. This article provides a step-by-step approach to ensure safe and nonabusive interventions.

Lyndal Bullock is a professor of special education at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Catherine Donahue is a teacher of the emotionally disturbed in Dallas, and is an adjunct faculty member at North Texas State. Jeffry Young teaches art for the Arlington Independent School District, Arlington, Texas. Michael Warner studies nursing at Texas Women's University in Denton.
