An Evaluation and Comparison of Some Tests for the Validity of the Assumption that the Underlying Distribution of Life Is Exponential

Pages 327-337 | Received 01 Apr 1974, Published online: 09 Jul 2007

Abstract

The exponential distribution is frequently assumed to represent life testing data and the validity of this assumption is verified by using one of the many tests available for this situation. This paper compares the relative power of 16 of the tests available for validating the assumption of exponentiality. Operating characteristic curves are empirically determined for each test. Comparisons are then made to determine the best test.
