Abstract

Improving the productivity of a system can cause unsought consequences in the system's environment. Designers and managers must be increasingly aware of these effects. To approach such problems the concept of “dual-phase” simulation is presented. System productivity is analyzed in detail in a microphase and environmental responses are monitored in a more aggregate fashion in a macrophase. The basic framework of a model demonstrating this approach has been developed and is given as an example.
