Abstract
By means of x-ray structure analysis investigations were made on {111}-planes in gold deformed by friction. As a result of the friction a thin, facet-like, polycrystalline surface layer is produced, whose crystal planes showed a characteristic, directional tilt from the original position of the {111}-plane. The amount of the tilt can be expressed by a medium tilting angle. The depth of deformation under the stress of N = 5 p and a slideway of L = 580 cm was found to be 50 μm.
