Viscous Flow Between Two Rotating Nonconcentric Cylinders for Small Gap

Pages 149-157 | Published online: 25 Mar 2008

Abstract

Steady two dimensional viscous flow of an incompressible fluid between two rotating nonconcentric cylinders is investigated. The problem is formulated within the framework of a bipolar coordinate system. An approximate solution to the formulated problem is obtained by imposing a small gap restriction. The small gap velocity profiles and pressure distribution solution are employed to obtain some classical results of the journal bearing problem. Velocity profile and pressure curves are presented for speed ratios of 0.0, ± 1.0 and ± 2.0.
