Abstract
In this work, a variety of phosphonate esters, N-alkyl ammonium alkyl hydrogen phosphites, and a few phosphinates have been prepared. The compounds prepared were tested as extreme pressure additives at equimolar concentration in mineral oil by the Four-Ball Machine. The ammonium alkyl hydrogen phosphites showed unusual effectiveness in raising the initial seizure load.
A few of the compounds prepared were also tested for antiwear activity.
