Tribochemical Processes and Wear Resistance of Polymeric Materials

Abstract

Tribochemical transformations of polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ) and a composite material on its basis containing graphite are investigated. A mass-spectrometric analysis shows that in the polymer surface layers the destructive-structurizing processes occur on friction that changes the structure and properties of the surface layer. It is shown that, in the presence of a graphite filler, the tribochemical transformation character also changes. Based on the investigation data, a general scheme of tribochemical changes of PPQ is proposed and their relation to wear is suggested.
