SUMMARY

The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing has undertaken a research program that will lead to an increased understanding of the radiometric contribution to a remotely sensed scene from elements such as the atmosphere and the geometry dependence of the surface reflectance (georadiometric effects). This note describes a research project dealing with georadiometric effects (GEORAD). In particular, it describes field campaigns conducted to provide data for developing and validating a forest canopy model that will provide predictions of the bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDF) of the canopy and elements within the canopy for use in the interpretation of moderate to high spatial resolution remotely sensed images.
