A model for achieving short-term and long-term goals in a leisure career

Abstract

This article proposes a theoretical model for achieving short-term and long-term goals in a leisure career. A previous model illustrating the process between constraints, negotiation, motivation, and participation, as well as modifications made by other researchers, inspired the development of this model. The model illustrates how short-term negotiation strategies could be used to achieve short-term goals, which may also build up to the achievement of long-term goals, and how long-term negotiation strategies could be used to achieve long-term goals. The model is applied to the context of amateur athletes pursuing sport as a leisure career to demonstrate the progression through the stages of the model.

Cet article propose un modèle théorique orienté vers la réalisation des objectifs à court terme et à long terme dans le cadre d’une carrière de loisirs. Le modèle proposé s’inspire de modèles existants illustrant le processus entre les contraintes, la négociation, la motivation et la participation. Le modèle illustre comment les stratégies de négociation à court terme pourraient être utilisées pour atteindre les objectifs à court terme, ce qui peut aussi mener à la réalisation d’objectifs à long terme, et comment les stratégies de négociation à long terme pourraient être utilisées pour atteindre les objectifs à long terme. Le modèle est ici appliqué au contexte d’athlètes amateurs qui poursuivent une carrière sportive. L’article vise à démontrer la progression à travers les différentes étapes du modèle.
