Abstract

Both Venturia inaequalis and V. pirina produced ascospores when scab-infected leaves were stored in either controlled atmosphere or air storage at −1° to 1°C, oversummered in dry storage out of doors in boxes, then placed in orchards in autumn to overwinter. Survival in picking bins may explain long distance dissemination of V. inaequalis and V. pirina.
