A new postharvest rot of peaches in Canada caused by Mucor piriformis

Pages 219-221 | Published online: 29 Dec 2009

Abstract

A postharvest decay of ‘Redhaven’ peaches in a commercial cold storage (3-4°C) was identified as mucor rot caused by the fungus Mucor piriformis. This is the first report of mucor rot on peaches in Canada. Under controlled conditions in the laboratory the fungus significantly decayed peaches at 5°C within 10 days. The etiology and control of this disease are discussed.
