Abstract
With the changing role of work there has been a shift in focus to the role of leisure and recreation in individuals lives. This study examines the recreational patterns of 33 individuals with an intellectual handicap. Results indicated that the overall profile tended to be similar to the population in general. Some gender differences in activity participation were observed. Concern for the burden of initiating recreational activities for those individuals not in New Zealand Society for the Intellectually Handicapped residential facilities is raised.
