The role of rehabilitation medicine in a developmental disability service

Abstract

This paper discusses the role of rehabilitation medicine in the context of the patient with a developmental disability. The general principles of the rehabilitation process are outlined, followed by a description of how rehabilitation medicine can play a role in a developmental disability service, with reference to services in the St George district of Southern Sydney. A case report is presented, along with a discussion of the problem of the transition of patients to adult services.
