Abstract
The normalisation movement resulted in the dissolution of the traditional institution-based medical model for persons with developmental disabilities. Services began to be built around multidisciplinary community-based diagnostic and assessment teams. Different team models of professional intervention have been used to address the multiple needs of persons with developmental disabilities. The model operating in Kogarah, NSW is described. This model provides comprehensive and co-ordinated services in developmental disability medicine for children and adults. The features of this model, some of which are unique, are compared to other models which have been described previously.
