ABSTRACT
In this paper, a fast a.c. voltage regulator using thyristor controlled coupled circuits is presented. The load voltage can be stabilized against supply voltage variation above and below the desired level. Boosting or bucking effect is performed in steps but with no distortion or phase-shift in the load voltage. Fine adjustment of load voltage is possible using phase-control in a narrow range (in between the steps). A three limb magnetic circuit is used such that flux of the boosting (or bucking) coil is varied in accordance with the action of a switched secondary circuit. Accordingly voltage current transients in the load circuit are avoided.
Commutation from the outgoing to the incoming thyristor is natural. Selection of the thyristor gating is effected by an electronic circuit which acts within a halfcycle if the supply votlage is varied. Theoretical and experimental investigations are reported and performance of the test model is computed and compared with the test results.
