ABSTRACT
Louisiana Power & Light (LP&L) Company has recognized the need for integrated resource planning methodologies, which will allow integration of both demand-side and supply-side options in planning for the future. As a first step, the need for modeling and analysis of individual demand-side options was recognized. The first demand-side option to be modeled and analyzed was selected to be residential conservation. We report the results of modeling and analysis of an insulation program, i.e. insulation of electric heating/cooling equipment at residential homes. A cost/benefit analysis was performed. The costs and benefits of each parameter were then quantified over the study period of ten years and expressed in terms of present worth in 1987 dollars. It is shown that costs outweigh benefits.
