ABSTRACT
The behavior of conventional OPF solutions (neglecting contingencies) is studied when some loads are fed by fixed tap transformers. The 30 bus, 57 bus, 118 bus test systems and the Nova Scotia power system are used in the simulation. Slight modifications of the 30 bus system are made to allow for several interesting test situations. Exponential type load models are used in the simulation.
It is concluded that in the presence of loads fed by fixed tap transformers, a conventional OPF solution can have discrepancies with the practically observed version. Significant discrepancies can occur in fuel cost, revenue, power demand and losses. Line flow limit violations and voltage limit violations can also occur in some cases.
