Abstract
An observer for temperature estimation in electrical machines is introduced, based on a thermal model implemented in a microcomputer. Only measurement of current, voltage, speed and temperature at an easy accessible spot is required. The experimental results are shown for three different machine types, a dc disk motor 1 k W, a dc rolling mill motor 3500 k W and a squirrel cage induction motor 18.5 k W.
