ABSTRACT

This paper describes the development of a digital computer model for a two area interconnected power system which includes the governor deadband nonlinearity, steam reheat constraints and boiler dynamics. The improvement in automatic generation control (AGO with the addition of a small capacity Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) unit is studied. Time domain simulations are used to study the performance of the power system and the controller. Parameter optimization of the controller are carried out by the second method of Lyapunov, which ensures the stability of the system. Suitable methods for the control of SMES unit are also described.
