Abstract
The optical transmittance of KTiOPO4 single crystals was measured from the ultraviolet to the visible range. The dependence of the absorption coefficient α and its square root α1/2 on the photon energy hv were calculated and the characteristics of the absorption edge is discussed. The absorption edge below 3.68eV is attributable to indirect transition. The energy gaps Eg and E′g of the crystal, which correspond to the direct transition and indirect transition, respectively, and the energy of phonons taking part in the indirect transition were calculated.
