Involving subject librarians in batchloading

Abstract

The University at Albany developed a batchloading workflow, which included subject librarians in an activity usually reserved for technical services librarians. While batchloading reduces backlogs by increasing productivity, the proliferation of vendor MARC and OCLC MARC creates its own backlog of files waiting to be loaded. Bringing subject librarians and a collection development perspective into the process helps set priorities for dealing with this new backlog, as well as serving to uncover hidden collections.
