Chapter Abstracts of Carbohydrate Chemistry, Volume 4: Proven Synthetic Methods

Chapter 29: Methyl 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-[(bis-metho-xycarbonyl) methyl]-β-d-glucopyranoside By Prashant Pavashe, Tukaram Pimpalpalle, Torsten Linker, and László Juhász

C-Disaccharides represent a class of compounds in which the interglycosidic oxygen atom is replaced by a methylene group. C-Analogs of monosaccharides serve as convenient precursors in different synthetic routes. Although the introduction of carbon substituents at the anomeric center can be easily achieved by radical reactions, the C-functionalization of other positions, e.g., at C-2, requires usually many steps.
