Abstract

The structure of the capsular polysaccharide of the recently characterized type VI Group B Streptococcus (GBS) has been established using one- and two-dimensional homo- and heterocorrelated 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The native polysaccharide contains D-glucose, D-galactose and sialic acid in the molar ratio 2:2:1. The structure of its repeating unit is:
