High-Performance Electrophoresis Including Separation of Nucleic Acids and their Degradation Products. Interplay Between Theory and Practical Experiments

Pages 319-330 | Published online: 04 Oct 2006

Abstract

The analogy between electrophoresis, centrifugation and chromatography is stressed by consideration of a formula which is valid for all three methods. An equation for electrophoretic plate heights forms the basis for a discussion of the experimental conditions for maximum resolution. The difference between true and apparent plate numbers and plate heights is underlined. Separations of nucleotides and DNA fragments are presented.
