The Synthesis and Antiviral Activity of (E)-5-(2-Nitrovinyl)uridine and (E)-5-(2-Nitrovinyl)-2′-deoxyuridine

Abstract

The protection of the sugar moiety of a 5-formyluracil nucleoside with acid-labile protecting groups allows for the deprotection of the sugar of a subsequently formed nucleoside possessing a 5-nitrovinyl side-chain. The synthesis and antiviral activity of (E) -5-(2-nitrovinyl)-uridine and (E)-5-(2-nitrovinyl)-2′-deoxyuridine are reported.
