The Information Transmission from the Nucleobase Drives the Sugar-Phosphate Backbone Conformation in the Nucleotide Wire

Abstract

We herein present our results showing that a simple mononucleotide block actually acts as a wire. This is evidenced by the fact that any change of the electronic character of the nucleobase is transmitted to drive the sugar conformation, which in turn dictates cooperatively the preferred orientation of the phosphate backbone.
