What Are the Conformational Changes Induced by Hard and Soft Metal Ion Binding to 2′-Deoxyguanosine?

Abstract

The NMR study on the interactions of 2′-dG with Mg2+, Zn2+ and Hg2+ ions in D2O solution has shown that binding of softer metal ions to N7 shifts N <!—graphic—> S pseudorotational equilibrium slightly towards N-type sugar conformations. There are no detectable changes for the conformational equilibria across C4′-C5′ bond, whereas the population of the syn conformers is slightly increased.
