Abstract
The behavior of fine thermal coal during loading, transportation, unloading, and storage depends on such factors as moisture content, particle size composition, ash content, and mineralogical composition of coal mineral matter. The principles of the GIG method of determination of handleability index, developed at the Central Research Mining Institute (GIG) in Katowice, is described. Results of the handleability index measurements using the GIG method are presented, and the classification system of thermal coals based on such a handleability index is introduced and discussed.
