Abstract

A power station fly ash transportation system, which moves the ash from a bag house to a mine rehabilitation site, a distance of 12 km, is described. Two pneumatic conveying subsystems move the ash from the bag filters to an intermediate silo and from there to the ash plant (a distance of about I km). Here the ash is mixed with water and pumped to the mine rehabilitation site. The concentration of the ash/water mixture is Cw.∼70%. Comparisons of system characteristics to those obtained on smaller test systems are made for both pneumatic conveying sub-systems and the slurry sub-system. Blockages have been a problem with the pneumatic conveying sub-system 1. The present system effectively demonstrates the dense phase slurry transportation technology and the capability of power station ash to reclaim environmentally damaged land.
