The ${\mathcal{l}}^0$ “norm” $\left|\right|·|{|}_0$ is related to the ${\mathcal{l}}^1$ norm used in the Lasso. ${\mathcal{l}}^1$-penalization is being used in many fields. An economic application of it is the theory of “sparse bounded rationality” in Gabaix (2014).
