Pages 21-35 | Published online: 11 Feb 2013

Notes

1I have previously discussed Freud's religious views and their limitations at length (CitationMeissner, 1984).

2 CitationRizzuto's (1979) study of the genetic and dynamic aspect s of the development of the God-representation demonstrates these effects dramatically.

3 CitationRizzuto (1998) has also documented in great detail the complex vicissitudes and influences resulting in Freud's proclaiming himself a “godless Jew.”

4I have discussed problems related to dealing with the concept of God in analysis more fully in Meissner (in press).
