ABSTRACT
The article traces the birth of free association out of the spirit of freedom, outlines its evolution, and deals with some current critics misrepresenting or trying to eliminate the method. The eminent importance of free association is stressed and a reformulation of the fundamental rule into a poetic license proposed. Finally, the article focuses on positive examples of free association like Zvi Lothane’s reciprocal free association and calls for further investigation to enhance the free expression and exchange of unconscious images and ideas in the process of free association.
