Discussion of Anne Alvarez's Case Presentation

Abstract

In my discussion, I offer my formulation of Luisa's problems as they emerge in the dyad. I utilize my theory of five motivational systems and principles of technique derived from them. I consider the paradox that experienced analysts can use divergent orienting theories and technical approaches and each benefit the patient. I also take up Dr. Alvarez's wonder that she didn't feel warmer toward Luisa.
