ABSTRACT
The objective of this study is to explore the nature and characteristics of the handling of inmate rule violations, and inquiries, in an urban jail. The method of study is primarily descriptive. The incident hearing reports for 1986-87 (N=579) will be demographically summarized and the relative importance of these factors will be examined. The results show that most correctional officers respond to jail inmate rule violations with warnings and the dispositions are set prior to a formal hearing process.
