STALKING AND RESTRAINING ORDERS: A LEGAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT

Stalking is a complex subject that has only recently come to our collective consciousness. Exactly what stalking is, who the stalkers are and how we currently respond to stalking has generated controversy within academic, medical and legal professions. This article proposes a definition of stalking, reviews the various typologies of stalkers, and examines the advantages and disadvantages of using restraining orders on this unique population.
