ABSTRACT
Detection of deception training has been viewed as problematic due to “Investigator Bias” (Meissner and Kassin, 2002). The presence of this response bias means that investigators have a tendency to judge statements as being deceptive regardless of the statement's actual veracity. A quasi-experimental design is presented here to examine if small changes in detection of deception training curricula can, in fact, alter response biases. Results suggest that the lie bias that is induced by some types of training can be prevented by addressing the potential for bias during training.
