Abstract

The liquid ion‐exchanger tricaprylylmethylammonium chloride (TCMAC) is used for the preparation of solvent impregnated resins (SIR). The sorption of the model amino acid L‐phenylalanine (L‐Phe) is studied for different solid supports (XAD16, XAD1180, DELOXAN HAP, SIPERNAT D10, IRC50, and Lewatit MP500) under varied initial conditions (volume‐to‐mass ratio, phenylalanine concentration, and ion‐exchanger loading). For comparison, the equilibria of five other amino acids (histidine, tryptophane, tyrosine, arginine, and proline), differing mainly in their hydrophobicity and pI values, is also investigated. The equilibrium sorption of amino acids on SIR is modelled by taking the hydroxide ion co‐extraction into account.
