Abstract

For fluidized bed drying, the heat and mass transfer process can be modeled by using the volumetric heat transfer coefficient between the drying gas and the particulate matter. Part 1 of this series offered a heat and mass transfer model developed for calculating the particles and drying gas conditions in a fluidized bed dryer. In this part, an algorithm was developed based on this model. The variation of parameters along the height of the dryer and versus drying time can be calculated. The results of the simulation have been validated by using experimental data from a pilot plant fluidized bed dryer with agricultural seeds. We found that the method of determining the logarithmic temperature difference greatly influences the values of the drying parameters and thus the drying time and the height of the desorption zone.
