Planned Migration to Distributed Systems

Pages 32-39 | Published online: 31 May 2007

Abstract

Many organizations approach a changeover to distributed processing through expansion and evolution of existing centralized applications. Although expanding existing systems is ostensibly less risky than implementing a new DDP system, the requirements for migrating all aspects of the current system (e.g., programs, data bases, and operating methods) to the new environment can be extremely complex. Moving existing data bases or creating new ones in a DDP environment warrants special concern.
