Corporate Responsibility and the MIS Manager

Abstract

The MIS manager is functioning in an environment of change. Not only is technology advancing rapidly, but the corporate climate is undergoing change as well. As MIS takes on increased strategic importance, its managers must learn some new lessons about performing responsibly from an organizational standpoint.

Robert E. Umbaugh is president of Mission Land Co, a subsidiary of Southern California Edison Co, president and chief executive officer of the Associated Southern Investment Co, and president and managing director of Calabasas Park Co. He is also an adjunct professor of lnformation Systems at the Claremont Graduate School and a widely published author in the fields of MIS and management science. Umbaugh is the consulting editor of Data Processing Management and the Journal of Information Systems Management, and he serves on the board of advisers of Information Strategy: The Executive's Journal and 1BM's Utility Industry Group.
