Abstract

The global responsibility for an organization's data resource, regardless of who is perceived to own it, lies with data administration (DA), whose purview includes all corporate automated and manual data resources. To meet this responsibility, DA must interact with those involved in the use of information systems both within and outside the organization.

Dr Palangala S. Ravindra is director of the Data Administration Branch of the Alberta Energy/Forestry. Lands and Wildlife in Alberta, Canada. He has held analyst and managerial positions with government agencies and private organizations and has taught courses in programming and systems analysis and spoken on data resource management issues. His current interests include data base management systems, information resource management, and strategic planning.
