Abstract

A systematic control facility for MIS relies on the secure administration and use of confidential character strings known as passwords, user-IDs, and security codes. Although general semantic confusion surrounds these terms, senior management expects a data security function to maintain password security. Understanding the basic definitions, characteristics, and control technique for passwords is therefore central to the success of data security.
