User-Friendly Controls in the Information Center

Abstract

Once instituted, the information center often undergoes a period of remarkable growth. If that growth remains uncheckedt waste and mismanagement are likely results, causing data integrity and security risks. This article describes controls that are effective in restraining growth and ex-plains how to implement them.

Is manager of decision support at Fireman's Fund Employers Insurance, Green Bay Wl. Galen received a BA in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin and has achieved two insurance designations: FLMI, fellow in the Life Management Institute, and AIM, associate in management. His 14 years of DP experience include programming management, life systems management, and information center management. He has spoken on the topic of information centers at Pansophic Systems' national conference, state and local professional groups, and the University of Wisconsin campuses at Stevens Point and Oshkosh.
