Managing Applications as a Software Portfolio

Abstract

As demand grows faster than resources, MIS departments must change the way they allocate scarce resources to get work done. The concept of portfolio management provides a basis for decision making by optimizing MIS resources to meet the demands of end users as well as the long-term needs of an organization.

Gary S. Venner

Director of The Diebold Research Programs, responsible for research reports and meetings as well as marketing. He has spent nine years with John Diebold & Associates, most recently serving as director, responsible for The Diebold Group's consulting practice among clients in the hospital, insurance, and manufacturing industries. Venner has held managerial positions in data processing with Salomon Brothers and Raytheon and a management position at Chemical Bank. He holds a 6s in electrical engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA in finance from New York University.
