Abstract

Many IS projects fail not from a lack of technical expertise but from a lack of user support and involvement. This column describes an effective method of encouraging users to participate in IS projects–the social contract.

Cynthia Mathis Beath

Is an assistant professor of information systems management at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. She received her PhD in management from UCLA. Before beginning her career in academia, Beath spent more than 12 years in MIS management and systems implementation at several large industrial firms.
