Specifying System Requirements: A Framework of Current Techniques

Abstract

For decades, experts have been calling for solutions to the problems associated with the specification of system requirements. Despite significant progress, the paradox remains that advances in the state-of-the-art technology are not engendering parallel advances in software technology. This article establishes a framework for evaluating various requirement specification techniques to help systems analysts select the appropriate method.

assistant professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University, Philadelphia PA. She has done extensive consulting work, including advising, training, and assisting with software development. She has published articles in various professional journals. She is a member of the ACM, DPMA, and the Decision Science Institute. She holds a PhD and an MA in computer science from Temple University, and she has a Master's of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Business degree from Pennsylvania State University.
